BIO
I am a Professor of Economics at the School of Politics and Economics at King’s College London, which I joined in 2015. Previously I was lecturer at the University of Birmingham and postdoc at the University of Oxford, held visiting appointments in Athens, Tokyo, and Cambridge, consulted for the World Bank, and edited for VoxEU and the European Economic Review. I did my PhD in International Economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute after an undergrad in business at HEC Montréal, during which I also spent a term at ITAM in Mexico City. I was born in Montréal but spent most of my childhood in Niamey, Yaoundé, and Antananarivo, something that shaped my research, I guess.
My research uses natural experiments and novel datasets to get a better grasp of policy issues in trade, development, and migration. A recurring theme has been how trade and migration interact to promote development. It sometimes gets covered by The Economist, Financial Times, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal. I am also immersed in the political economy questions of our time, thanks to my colleagues in the King's QPE and Econ@King's groups.
